Delta Comfort Plus is now called Delta Comfort: an economy seat with up to 3 more inches of legroom, Zone 3 boarding, reserved bin space and free beer, wine and liquor on flights of 350 miles or more. It isn't premium economy. As of October 2026 it comes in three fares, Basic, Classic and Extra, and the fare matters as much as the seat.
Yes. Delta announced new names for its cabins on 15 May 2025, for flights from 1 October 2025: Comfort+ became Delta Comfort, Main Cabin became Delta Main and First Class became Delta First. The seats and the perks didn't change with the name, so a review of Comfort+ still describes what you'll sit in.
Two things did change around the rename. Delta now sells Comfort in three fare types, Basic, Classic and Extra, and from 22 January 2026 Delta treats Comfort as part of economy rather than premium economy on flights within the US and Canada. You'll still see "Comfort+" on some older Delta pages.
Here's what Delta lists for every Comfort fare, checked against Delta's own Delta Comfort page on 31 October 2026.
| Perk | Delta Comfort | Delta Main |
|---|---|---|
| Legroom | Up to 3 more inches than a standard Main seat | Standard economy legroom |
| Boarding | Zone 3 | Zones 5 to 7; Main Basic boards last in Zone 8 |
| Overhead bins | Space reserved above your seat | No reserved space |
| Drinks, 350 miles and over | Free Starbucks coffee, beer, wine and liquor (21 and over) | Depends on the route; check Delta's onboard menu |
| Snacks | Premium snacks on many routes over 900 miles without a meal | Standard snack service |
| Long-haul international | Pillow, blanket and amenity kit | Depends on the route |
| Checked bags in the US | Paid, same as Main | Paid |
Delta doesn't publish a seat width or an exact seat pitch for Comfort, only "up to 3" more inches of legroom. On long-haul international flights of 6.5 hours or more Delta's terms page also lists extra recline. Delta changes onboard service often, so check the Delta Comfort page on delta.com before you fly.
Delta lists legroom, earlier boarding and reserved bin space as what Comfort adds to Main. Everything else in the Comfort column comes from Delta's own Comfort page.
Every Comfort fare gets the same seat, boarding zone and drinks. What changes is how much you can change, cancel and choose. Delta launched Comfort Basic on 6 November 2025 for travel from 19 November 2025, and it only shows up on select domestic flights, usually within 14 days of departure.
| Fare rule | Comfort Basic | Comfort Classic | Comfort Extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seat selection before the flight | No, seat assigned at check-in | Yes | Yes |
| Changes | Fee | No fee | No fee |
| Cancellation | Fee | eCredit | Refund to your original payment |
| Same-day changes | Not allowed | Free standby | Free confirmed |
| SkyMiles earned (general members) | 2 miles per $1 | 5 miles per $1 | 7 miles per $1 |
| Medallion upgrades | Not eligible | Eligible | Eligible, ahead of Classic |
| Can you book with miles? | No | Yes, with full miles back if you cancel | No |
Miles are earned on the base fare and airline surcharges, not on government taxes. Free same-day confirmed changes apply within the 50 US states, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Our take: Comfort Basic only makes sense if you're travelling alone and don't mind where you sit. Because Delta picks the seat at check-in, a couple or a family can end up apart, and a middle seat is likely. If the gap to Comfort Classic is small, pay it.
Comfort is worth it when the flight is long enough to feel the legroom and the drinks, and when you'll get an aisle or window. It's rarely worth it on a short hop.
What travellers say, as their own experience rather than verified fact: in r/delta threads from 2025 about $75 Comfort offers on Detroit (DTW) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) and New York (JFK) to Naples, most commenters said yes for flights that long, and several said the deciding factor was whether the Comfort seat was a middle seat.
There's no fixed price. Delta sells Comfort as its own fare, so the difference from Main depends on the route, the date and how full the flight is.
In r/delta threads from 2025, travellers reported $75 upgrade offers on long-haul flights. That's their experience, not a price list, so treat it as an example and confirm the amount on your own booking.
Medallion members get complimentary Comfort upgrades on eligible fares, subject to seats being available, in this order of timing:
| Medallion status | When upgrades start to clear |
|---|---|
| Diamond and Platinum | Shortly after ticketing |
| Gold | 72 hours before departure |
| Silver | 24 hours before departure |
Basic fares, Main Basic and Comfort Basic, are not eligible for complimentary upgrades at any status. A companion on the same reservation clears at the higher-status member's window.
To avoid a middle seat, set your seat preferences on the upgrade request for each flight and tick the box that limits the upgrade to those seat types. Delta notes that gate staff can still assign upgrades manually within 3 hours of departure.

Delta Comfort is economy with more legroom. Premium Select is a separate premium economy cabin on select international routes, and Delta First is the front cabin on domestic and short-haul flights.
| Feature | Delta Comfort | Delta Premium Select | Delta First |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seat | Economy seat, up to 3 in more legroom | Wider seat, up to 38 in pitch, 19 in wide, 7 in recline | Wider recliner in a separate cabin |
| Boarding | Zone 3 | Zone 2 | Zone 1 |
| Where you'll find it | Almost every Delta flight | Select international routes | Domestic and short-haul flights |
Premium Select figures are from Delta's agency page, updated 8 July 2026. Leg rests are on select widebody aircraft only.
On a long international flight where both are sold, Premium Select is a real step up in seat size; Comfort only adds legroom. When people say Delta premium economy, they mean Premium Select, not Comfort.
No, not on domestic flights. Comfort pays the same checked bag fees as Main: from 8 April 2026, $45 for the first bag and $55 for the second on domestic and short-haul international flights. Comfort Basic has the same checked bag allowance as Comfort Classic.
Free bags come from Medallion status, a Delta SkyMiles American Express card or an international itinerary that includes them, not from the Comfort seat. Our full Delta baggage guide has the details, and Delta's baggage fee page is the place to confirm the amount for your trip.
