Frontier baggage fees start at about $39 to $49 a bag when you add it while booking, and can reach $99 at the airport. Only the personal item is free. Add every bag at booking, and weigh your checked bag at home, because Frontier's limit is 40 lb.

Every Frontier fare includes one free personal item. Anything bigger costs extra, and the size limits are tighter than most travelers expect. These are the limits as of October 2026.
| Bag | Size and weight limit | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Personal item | 14 x 18 x 8 in, must fit under the seat in front of you | Free |
| Carry-on bag | 24 x 16 x 10 in, up to 35 lb | Paid, from about $39 to $49 at booking |
| Checked bag | 62 linear inches, up to 40 lb | Paid, from about $39 to $49 at booking |
Linear inches means length plus width plus depth. Bag prices vary by route and date, so check the exact price on your booking before you pay.
The personal item also has to slide easily into the gate sizer box. If you have to force it in, expect to pay at the gate.
Frontier prices bags the way it prices seats: the closer you get to departure, the more you pay. The cheapest moment is while you're booking the ticket.
| When you add the bag | Typical price | Our take |
|---|---|---|
| While booking | About $39 to $49 | The cheapest point. Do it here |
| Later, online | Higher than at booking | Fine if your plans changed |
| Online check-in, within 24 hours | Around $60 | You've already lost most of the saving |
| At the airport or gate | Up to $99 | The most expensive way to bring a bag |
Typical prices from October 2026. Frontier's fees change with the route and the date.
One thing surprises people: a checked bag is often cheaper than a carry-on on Frontier, because overhead bin space is limited. If you don't need the bag during the flight, price both before you choose. We'd check the bag.
You can add bags after booking through Frontier's app or website. It takes a couple of minutes.
This is where a cheap Frontier ticket gets expensive. The checked bag limit is 40 lb, lower than the 50 lb many travelers are used to on the bigger airlines, and Frontier enforces it strictly.
| Problem | Range | Extra charge |
|---|---|---|
| Overweight | 41 to 50 lb | $75 on top of the bag fee |
| Overweight | 51 to 99 lb | $129 on top of the bag fee |
| Oversize | 63 to 110 linear inches | $75 on top of the bag fee |
Our advice: weigh the bag at home with a cheap luggage scale. Moving 3 lb into your personal item costs nothing; paying for it at the counter costs $75.
Everyone else pays for anything bigger than a personal item, whatever the fare.
Denver International (DEN) is Frontier's operations base, so plenty of Frontier trips end there. If you land at Concourse A, the escalators and elevators in the middle of the concourse take you down to the underground train. Ride it to the main Jeppesen Terminal, where domestic and international arrivals come out on Level 5.
Baggage claim is in Terminal East. Carousels 1 to 6 are to the left and 7 to 9 are to the right.
